Canyoning Codula Fuili

An easy canyon suitable for beginners and families, only minutes away from Cala Gonone.

The Codula Fuili is a dry canyon located near the town of Cala Gonone, on the west coast of Sardinia. The canyoning descent of the Codula Fuili is 3 kilometers long and includes 4 abseils as high as 23 meters. The entire descent takes about 3 hours.

Starting from the mountains above the town we will enter the ancient riverbed, following its course through narrow gorges and down to the sea. At the end of the canyon, we will reach the tiny cove Cala Fuili, known for its beauty and for being the start of the trekking to Cala Luna.

We will enter an unfamiliar and silent part of Sardinia, where only birds of prey and tiny reptiles are at home. On walking the Codula Fuili we will witness the scars of past geological turmoil. Ancient rivers and volcanoes gave life to a continuous process of erosion and deposit, forming large plateaus and carving deep and narrow gorges.

How long does it take to reach the canyon?

We will meet in Cala Gonone and park our cars by the beach Cala Fuili. Before you book your tour please read below and choose how you would prefer to reach the canyon.

Long Approach

For groups that prefer walking, we will start our adventure from the cove Cala Fuili, hiking on an ancient mule track used by charcoal burners during the nineteenth century. Passing from abandoned shepherds' huts and caves, we will reach the entrance of the canyon Codula Fuili in about 1 hour and 30 minutes.

The total time with the long approach is about 6 hours.

Short Approach

In order to avoid the walk, you can opt for a car transfer. Driving our off-road vehicles on a dirt track, our guide will carry the group to the entrance of the canyon. It takes about 40 minutes from Cala Fuili. The canyon ends where we parked our cars.

The total time with the short approach is about 5 hours.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

nascosto

Can children participate in canyoning the Codula Fuili?

Yes, we welcome children older than 10 years, provided they are in good physical shape and have no excessive fear of the height and of abseiling with the ropes.

How difficult is the canyon Codula Fuili?

The hardest part of the canyoning is the initial trekking. We will have to walk uphill, from the beach Cala Fuili to the beginning of the canyon. The path to reach the entrance of the canyon is very panoramic and suggestive. It is a great introduction to Mediterranean vegetation, which we will slowly discover and discuss on our way up.

The descent of the canyon Codula Fuili is divided in easy scrambling passages and the rope abseils within the narrow part of the gorge.

Do you provide all the equipment for canyoning?

Yes, of course. We provide free of charge all the necessary equipment to canyoning. We provide harnesses and helmets to each participant. Our guide will have rope, descenders, carabiners, cordalette and all he/she needs for the security of the group.

What should I wear to participate in canyoning?

You should wear comfortable clothes, appropriate to the season. In the summertime, it is best to wear a technical t-shirt and shorts. Cotton shirts get wet and won’t dry out in time. It is necessary to wear hiking shoes with a rigid sole. Between walking up to the canyon and descending it, it will take at least 5 hours. It is fundamental to bring a packed lunch and at least 2 liters of water per person. We recommend a soft-shell jacket as it is often windy.

Is it possible to avoid trekking to reach the entrance of the canyon?

Yes, it is possible to avoid the initial trekking. We can provide a transfer to the starting point of the trekking.

Our meeting point will be the same in both cases. From our meeting point, we will take a car lift to the starting point of the canyon. That takes about 30 minutes drive
