Monte Linas and park Perd’e Pibera
Over the trees line, on the panoramic crests or southern Sardinia.
The immense panorama one sees from the barren crests of Mount Linas is unique and priceless. From the Gulf of Cagliari to the gulf of Oristano, the view extends 360° encompassing beautiful sights of the mountains and the valley below.
We will start our walk at 840 meters above sea level and immediately climb up a steep slope to Punta Riu Purdeddus (1078m). The initial fatigue will be paid back by the immense panorama that opens up towards the Gulf of Oristano and the west coast, with the top of Mount Arcuentu prominently rising above the other summits.
Our journey will continue over the crests of Mount Linas, providing endless magnificent panoramas. Next in line is Perda de sa Mesa (1236m), the highest peak of the massif. After 400 meters of vertical gain, we can linger a bit while admiring the whole valley of Campidano in front of us and the mountains at our back. This is the right moment for those with an interest in Geology to ask our guides what a Graben is!
If the group has energies to spare we can climb up our last peak: Punta Cammedda (1214m), or start our descent on an easy dirt road towards the park Perda ‘e Pibera. This site used to be a mine for the extraction of molybdenum, a mineral used as an industrial lubricant and more recently revalue as a substitute for Graphite.
NOTE: This itinerary is not circular, and therefore it requires a transfer back to the start point. We will meet up by the park Perd’e Pibera, just behind Villacidro. Our team will drive all participants to the starting point on our 4WD (30 minutes). We ask a help from the participants at the end of the trekking, giving a lift to the driver as close as possible to where the 4WD was left in the morning.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How difficult is the hike to mount Linas?
Our hiking tour to reach the summit of mount Linas is fairly tiring but suitable for anyone in good physical shape.
There is a total vertical gain of more than 500 meters (the beginning of the path is the steepest) but the path is very accessible and free from objective risks.
What should I wear to hike to the top of Mount Linas?
You should wear comfortable clothes, appropriate to the season. In the summertime, it is best to wear a technical t-shirt and shorts. Cotton shirts get wet and won’t dry out in time. It is necessary to wear hiking shoes with a rigid sole. The hike to Mount Linas lasts almost 6 hours, it is fundamental to bring packed lunch and at least 2 liters of water per person. We recommend a soft-shell jacket as it is often windy.
Is it possible to visit the mine of the park Perd'e Pibera?
No, unfortunately, the old mines are not open to the public.
We shall see the old buildings from the outside and pass through the forest that surrounds them, walking to the bare top of Mount Linas.
