Due to a severe drought, there is currently no running water on the Riu Pitrisconi.
All the pools of water are muddy and slippery. In addition, the delicate ecosystem is struggling to survive in the little water left. We strive to protect all the small amphibians, reptiles and insects that make this environment so special and ask everyone to avoid entering the canyon.

Canyoning Riu Pitrisconi
Jumping, abseiling, and swimming in pools of emerald water
The Canyon Riu Pitrisconi is by far the most enjoyable and refreshing summer activity in Sardinia. It is located near San Teodoro, in the natural park of Monte Nieddu, amongst granite hills and dense pine woods. The Riu Pitrisconi has a modest flow of water, even during the peak of summer, and the pools of emerald water are clear and deep enough to jump from various heights.
The Riu Pitrisconi is as beautiful as it could be: immersed in a wild landscape shaped by curvy granite rocks and adorned with flowery oleanders. While descending the canyon we will encounter many of its inhabitants, such as black, red, and blue dragonflies, tiny tree frogs, and innocuous grass-snakes.
From the first abseil, the itinerary never leaves the riverbed. We will abseil to descend its waterfalls, or simply jump into the pools or slide down the slippy rocks. While the most adventurous participants can enjoy jumping, those who do not feel like risking can abseil with the aid of our guides, without any pressure.
The Canyon Riu Pitrisconi is accessible to beginners and families too (minimum age is 8). No need for equipment or technical skills, our guides take care of all maneuvers, supervising the entire group and guaranteeing.
What should I have?
Clothing: Please wear a bathing suit and possibly a polyester t-shirt under your wet suit. We recommend having a change of clothes to leave in the car and wear after getting back.
Foot Wear: we will be walking on slippery rocks and on rocky paths. It is important to wear trainers or closed sandals. NO flip-flops!!!
Walking Back: At the end of the canyon, the group walks 30 minutes on a path to get back to the starting point.

Can I participate in canyoning even if I don't have any experience?
Yes, of course. You don’t need any previous experience to participate in our canyoning tour of the Riu Pitrisconi. Our guides take care of all rope maneuvers, so you can enjoy the day in total safety. What you really need is the ability to swim and be brave enough to abseil a 20 meters waterfall. Again, our guides will take care of the rope maneuvers. At the end of the canyon, we will have to walk 30 minutes to reach the pick-up point, where we’ll meet our 4WD transfer.
Is all the equipment provided for the tour?
Of course, all the necessary equipment is included in the cost of the canyoning activity. Each participant will receive a neoprene wetsuit, a helmet, and a harness. As we will jump and swim through many pools of water, we will also provide a draining backpack and a small waterproof container to keep your food dry.
What should I wear to participate in Canyoning the Riu Pitrisconi?
Keep in mind you will wear a wetsuit (unless it is a hot summer day). All you need is a bathing suit to wear inside your wetsuit and a pair of hiking shoes to walk on the slippery rocks.
Your shoes will get wet and dirty. It is a good idea to keep a spare pair in your car.
In case you need them, we can hire hiking shoes too. It comes to €6 for each pair.
We are a family with children, can we participate?
Yes, we happily welcome families with children of at least 10 years of age. Younger children may get excessively tired or be too skinny to wear a wetsuit.
Is the canyon Riu Pitrisconi feasible even during the summer?
Yes, there’s usually water even during the summer. All the pools have water to the brim, even when the stream of water is reduced to a tiny flow.
