Our <strong>trekking of the Gennargentu mountains<\/strong> is a 3 days long tour that crosses the massif south to north. The itinerary will take us walking over the summit of the highest mountains in Sardinia, over 1800 meters above sea level.\r\n\r\nFrom the streams and rivers at the bottom of the valleys, and through the Durmast and Holly oaks forests that cover the slopes of <strong>Gennargentu<\/strong>, our path climbs up to the bare ridges from where we will witness grandiose views over the entire park and over.\r\n\r\nWe will set off from the little town Aritzo, following the ancient mule tracks towards the crests that run atop the massif. The path leads straight to the primitive heart of the <strong>Barbagia<\/strong> region. The name comes from the Romans' time when these mountains were inhabited by untamed and hostile warriors. Infinite ordeals left us with a memory bank of a thousand legends about the brave Sardinians who settled on these remote mountains.\r\n\r\nThe dense forests that once covered these mountains had an enormous value and were the primary resource for the ancient Sardinians, as well as they were for all local people until the massive deforestation that occurred during 1800.\r\n\r\nWe will encounter many unattended huts, some of which we will occupy to spend the night in. Many of these huts were recently rebuilt to host wandering hikers and nature lovers. The panoramas become gradually more sumptuous as we follow our path to the highest peaks until we will reach on the second day the summit of <strong><em>Punta La Marmora<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(1834m) and the crest of\u00a0<strong><em>Bruncu Spina<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(1829m).\r\n\r\n<hr class=\"normal\" \/>\r\n\r\n<strong>PROGRAM<\/strong>\r\n<div class=\"tour_program\">\r\n<div class=\"tour_program_title\">DAY 1<\/div>\r\n<div class=\"tour_program_place\"><span style=\"color: #993300\"><strong>ARITZO \u2013 GIRGINI<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\r\n<div class=\"tour_program_content\">We will meet in Aritzo at 9:00 am and after a briefing and a check of our equipment we will start our trekking towards the woods that overlook the town. We will reach the first crest at the end of the morning and walk all day on an alternating of forests, openings and rivers. Starting from a remote area we will hike to a crest from where we will fill our lungs with the purest air and our eyes with the most stunning views. A really steep slope will finally take us to the summit of Punta Lamarmora (1834 metres above sea level), where we can have a long break while enjoying the 360\u00b0 panoramas. Although it may sound a bit techy, the morphology and vegetation of the two areas change drastically.
