Among all via Ferrata in Sardinia, the one of Punta Plumare is most certainly the most thrilling and adventurous. The only way to reach it is by walking an arduous trail that crosses ancient huts, exposed passages and steep scree. The via Ferrata di Plumare runs on a long horizontal ledge through the enormous crag of Punta Plumare, with unique views on the beach Cala Sisine and on the Gulf of Orosei.
Following an off-road transfer and a 30 minutes’ walk, we will reach the beautiful as famous beach Cala Sisine, from where the real adventure begins. From the south side of the beach, an ancient mule track rises the side of the mountain reaching a hut built under a large rock cavity. From the hut the itinerary becomes tougher, following the footsteps of the shepherds who once lived in these mountains. You might have heard of the infamous “iscalas ‘e fustes” , the precarious wooden ledges built by the shepherds to reach places only their goats could access.
On reaching the large wall of Punta Plumare, overlooking the blue sea below, we will be forced to carry on the narrow ledge. This is where the steel cable starts and will help us overcome all passages to arrive where the crags ends.
At the end of the via Ferrata is takes a 4 abseils to get back to Cala Sisine. The first 2 abseils of 30 and 50 metres are located just at the end of the cable and will take us on the last leg of the famous trek Selvaggio Blu. We will have to climb up a short additional via Ferrata and walk on the dense wood to reach the last 2 abseils, of 40 and 20 metres. The last abseils will take us to the shepherd hut we passed by on our way up, and in 15 minutes down to the beach Cala Sisine. During the hot season, it is a must to swim, a quick refresher before the last bit of walk.
An easy 30 minutes walk links Cala Sisine to Prane ‘e Murta, where an off-road vehicle will be waiting for us to drive us back to starting point.
