Via ferrata di Badde Pentumas

An unforgettable experience through the longest canyon in Sardinia

The Via Ferrata di Badde Pentumas develops on a high vertical crag of a deep canyon in the heart of Sardinia. It lays on a mountain region with no main roads, immersed in a wild and atmospheric landscape.

Time slows down while into the canyon of Pentumas. Likewise, the Via Ferrata links back to the ancestral eras when water created this fascinating landscape.  The only audible sounds when climbing up the narrow ledges are bird songs and the wind whooshing by the trees, no explanation is needed.

The path to reach the start of the Via Ferrata Pentumas requires about a 1-hour walk. We will enter the canyon Badde Pentumas from the bottom end and follow the ancient riverbed, walking through a thick oak tree forest. Once we will reach the base of the enormous and vertical wall we will start our ascent walking on the characteristic diagonal ledges that the river formed millions of years ago.

After completing the Via Ferrata we can choose whether to abseil back to the base or take a nice and wild path back to our car (1-hour walk).

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

nascosto

We are a family with children, can we participate in this Via Ferrata?

Yes, of course. The Via Ferrata Badde Pentumas is suitable for families with active children of at least 10 years of age.

Please keep in mind that we are talking about an exhausting activity and that it is necessary to walk for a long time. We will be attached to a steel cable while walking on an exposed ledge. The end of the Via Ferrata also includes a 10 meters vertical section, which is well protected but very exhausting.

How difficult is the Via Ferrata Badde Pentumas?

All in all, the Via Ferrata Badde Pentumas is not so difficult. We will walk 90 minutes at the bottom of the canyon, under the shadow of enormous oak trees. Climbing up the Via Ferrata Badde Pentumas will take about 2 hours of our time. The Via Ferrata ends at the top of the canyon, about 320 meters above our starting point. From the top, there is no path to get back. We shall walk through Mediterranean vegetation and make our way down passing over the infamous “campi solcati“.

What should I wear?

You should wear comfortable clothes, appropriate to the season. In the summertime, it is best to wear a technical t-shirt and shorts. Cotton shirts get wet and won’t dry out in time. You should wear hiking shoes with a hard sole and a backpackto carry your own water, food, and other personal items. The activity lasts almost 6 hours in total. It is fundamental to have a packed lunch and at least 2 liters of water per person. We recommend a soft-shell jacket as it is often windy.

Do you provide all the equipment for the via ferrata?

Yes, of course. We provide all the necessary equipment. Each participant will receive harness, helmet and via ferrata kit.
